Police await ‘critical’ info in fatal jet ski probe
The police are awaiting a critical piece of information in their probe into the fatal jet ski incident that claimed the life of seven-year-old Angelica Jogie. Angelica was killed on April 8 when a jet ski ploughed into a bathing-only zone at Pigeon Point beach and struck her. Eyewitnesses claimed the jet ski driver fled the scene after hitting the child and three of her relatives. The former San Fernando TML student was vacationing in Tobago with her family for Easter when tragedy unfolded. A suspect was arrested on April 9 at his Canaan home, but was later released pending investigations. Read more here
Angelo’s stepdad appears in court
Shannon Miller, 24, of Goodwood, Tobago, has appeared before a Scarborough court charged with the murder of two-year-old Angelo Tobias Plaza. Two-year-old Angelo was reported missing on the night of May 11 from his Cambridge Trace home in Goodwood. His body has not been found. Miller, who is Angelo’s stepfather, appeared virtually before Master Shabanna Shah on Monday. Read more here

PM posts praise and blessings for law enforcement officers
Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar yesterday continued to heap praise on this country’s law enforcement officials, even as criticisms mount following the fatal police-involved shooting of Joshua Samaroo. Emotions have been high after news broke last Thursday that Samaroo’s partner, Kaia Sealy, is facing charges, including manslaughter, arising out of the January 20 encounter with police. In a post on her social media platforms yesterday, she stated, “GOD BLESS OUR LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS.” In the post, she attached a video of news reports on the court appearance of relatives of Opposition Leader Pennelope Beckles back in 2014. Beckles’ relatives were held for gun and ammunition possession without the required licence and documentation. The Prime Minister said that when she saw this clip, she was reminded of two sayings. T&T outlook improves marginally, structural weakness persists
A comparison of the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) Staff Concluding Statement from February 10, 2026, and the Executive Board Concluding Statement issued on May 18, 2026, reveals a modest improvement in Trinidad and Tobago’s near-term macroeconomic outlook, economist Prof Roger Hosein has said. However, Hosein said that beneath the incremental revisions lies a familiar structural story: a slowly recovering non-energy sector carrying the burden of growth, a contracting energy sector weighing on long-term potential, and persistent vulnerabilities in inflation, fiscal balance, and external buffers. Gov’t to launch diaspora bond within one week – President Ali announces
President, Dr Irfaan Ali on Tuesday announced that the Government of Guyana will launch a diaspora bond within one week, creating a new investment mechanism aimed at mobilising overseas Guyanese to help finance major public infrastructural projects. The announcement, made during a press conference at the National Stadium, Providence, marks what could become one of the government’s most significant diaspora-financing initiatives as Guyana accelerates its national development agenda. “I want to announce that the Government of Guyana will launch a special bond, a diaspora bond, to raise funds from the diaspora for investment in public infrastructure projects in Guyana. Israeli strike in Gaza City kills new head of Hamas's military wing
The commander of Hamas's military wing, Mohammed Odeh, has been killed in a strike in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday - days after his predecessor died in a similar attack. At least three Palestinians were killed and dozens more were injured in the attack, which hit a residential building in one of Gaza City's busiest market areas, local medics and witnesses said. Israel's military and Shin Bet security service and said buildings that served as a hideout for Odeh were targeted after his movements were tracked for several months. Hamas has yet to issue an official statement, but a local Hamas source and relatives said Odeh and his wife were killed along with their adult son. Read more here
