PM: Firearms from station sold for months
PRIME MINISTER Kamla Persad-Bissessar noted yesterday that investigations into the stolen guns and ammunition at the San Fernando Municipal Police Station indicated that firearms were being taken out of the station and sold for months. Persad- Bissessar was speaking to journalists following the sod-turning ceremony for the Hilton Garden Inn hotel at South Park in San Fernando. The Director of Public Prosecutions has given instructions to charge a 28-year-old police officer in connection with the murder of Municipal Police Corporal Anusha Eversley, as investigations intensify into her killing and the disappearance of a large quantity of firearms and ammunition from the San Fernando Municipal Police Station. $220M Hilton Garden Inn to create 550 jobs
Construction on a new internationally branded hotel in South Trinidad is expected to begin within the next 60 days, bringing an estimated 400 jobs during the building phase and a further 150 permanent positions upon completion. The $220 million project—a 120-room Hilton Garden Inn with a convention centre—is being developed by Superior Hotels Limited and is expected to be completed in just under two years, with an opening targeted for April 2028.
