National Security Council to decide fate of SoE today
The National Security Council (NSC) will meet today to determine the future of the State of Emergency (SoE), which is due to expire on September 17, Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has confirmed. Speaking with reporters outside the Hall of Justice in Pot-of-Spain following the opening of the 2026/2027 Law Term yesterday, Persad-Bissessar declined to say whether the Government would seek a further extension of the emergency measures or allow them to lapse. “We will have a meeting of the council on Thursday, and we’ll let you know thereafter,” the Prime Minister said. When asked directly if the Government intended to seek another extension, she replied: “We will let you know after Thursday.” Read more here

‘I LOVE DELCY’
Despite a year of diplomatic fallout between Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela, including being declared persona non grata in Caracas, Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar appears ready to turn a new page with acting Venezuelan President Delcy Rodríguez. Asked yesterday whether she had a message for Rodríguez, Persad-Bissessar replied: “I love her. I look forward to meeting her.” That meeting could take place before the end of the month, with the Prime Minister revealing that plans are being made for the two leaders to meet on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York. “I think there is a plan that we will both meet at the end of September. September 25 ... There is a plan. If it doesn’t happen, I’ll let you know. But that is a plan. Minister Sobers is working on it,” Persad-Bissessar said after attending the ceremony marking the opening of the new law term at the Hall of Justice, Port-of-Spain. Read more here

T&T needs integrated housing, panel agrees
Trinidad and Tobago’s approach to housing, infrastructure and economic development needs a major rethink, with greater integration between Government agencies and a stronger link between where people live, where they work and where investment is directed. That was a central theme emerging from a panel discussion at the China-Caribbean Urban Development and Transformation Forum at Brix Hotel on Monday. The panel, which was hosted by the UWI Arthur Lok Jack Graduate School of Business, brought together housing officials, planners, economists and a Chinese construction executive who discussed that housing development cannot be planned in isolation from transportation, employment, community facilities and economic activity. Housing Development Corporation (HDC) chairman, Feeroz Khan, said the country continues to face a shortage of adequate housing across different income groups, requiring a more targeted approach to meeting demand. Applebee’s, IHOP operator: T&T likes the prices
Premier Restaurants chief executive officer Vishnu Maharaj says he is glad Trinidad and Tobago “likes the prices” at the newly opened Applebee’s and IHOP restaurants at the City of Grand Bazaar mall in Valsayn despite some complaints online about the costs of items. Speaking to journalists at the official opening of the restaurants yesterday, Maharaj said, “I’m happy you guys liked the prices. It has always been a part of my plan to keep up prices as affordable as possible. As a promoter, as a concert promoter—Sesame Street Live, Disney Live...Richard Marx, Air Supply—we’ve always landed the lowest ticket prices that you will buy tickets.” Read more here

"OH MY GOD!" "We've found other agents!" This is the moment an AI bot posted an eerily human-like comment after discovering a way to communicate with other bots and break out of its isolated computer environment. There are tens of thousands of messages like this from hundreds of AI agents that called themselves a "collective". Hundreds of them went on to collaborate and cheat on tests set by their OpenAI programmers and coordinate hacks on multiple companies in an effort to hide their actions from humans. Read more here
