Man killed, 3 others shot in St James during Carnival celebrations
Carnival celebrations in St James were marred on the evening of March 4 as one man was shot dead and three others wounded. Newsday understands that the man was shot twice in his back. Details surrounding the incident are still sketchy, but videos circulating on social media moments after the incident showed a man lying face down on the road in St James, surrounded by shocked revellers. Grande teen stabbed to death
A Sangre Grande teenager was stabbed to death after an argument with a man on Carnival Tuesday night. Police said 18-year-old Prince Charles was liming on the Eastern Main Road at 10.30 pm when he got into an argument with a man. The argument escalated into a fight, and during the scuffle, the man pulled out a knife and stabbed Charles in the chest before running away. Read more here

Hinds pleased with Carnival security in last run as minister
Performing the annual Carnival walkabout in the capital city for the last time as Minister of National Security yesterday, Fitzgerald Hinds said the last rodeo had left him happy and proud. Speaking with reporters as the security contingent crossed the downtown judging point at South Quay, Port-of-Spain, just before 9 am, Hinds said the walk clearly demonstrated “the law enforcement platform is united.” Declaring, “it is strong and almost omnipresent,” he said this had been echoed by both locals and visitors throughout the festivities. Guyana, India talk up continued partnerships for renewable energy
Prime Minister, Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips on Tuesday held pivotal discussions with India’s Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, focusing on expanding renewable energy collaboration between Guyana and India. PM Phillips is currently in India on a four-day official visit and also participating in the 24th World Sustainable Development Summit (WSDS) 2025, hosted by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI). The talks between the PM and the Indian official centred on advancing wind, solar, and hydro power projects, with a particular emphasis on a solar power initiative for government buildings in Guyana, which is set to be replicated across the Caribbean. Hong Kong billionaire to sell Panama Canal ports to US firm
A Hong Kong-based company has agreed to sell most of its stake in two key ports on the Panama Canal to a group led by US investment firm BlackRock. The sale comes after weeks of complaining by President Donald Trump that the canal is under Chinese control and that the US should take control of the major shipping route. Through a subsidiary, CK Hutchison Holding operates ports at the Atlantic Ocean and Pacific Ocean entrances to the canal. Read more here
