Bmobile, Neptune collab aims to provide nonstop broadband

Public Utilities Minister reports OWTU to police over protest at his home

Public Utilities Minister Marvin Gonzales said his family is still traumatised by a protest the Oilfield Workers' Trade Union (OWTU) led outside his home in November 2024, and that he has reported the matter to the police. He declined to give an update on the police report. Gonzales spoke to the media on February 11, as he visited a $26 million water pipeline upgrade project in Woodland, which is expected to benefit as many as 40,000 users on completion in the next few months. Kamla again says she wants no part of NTA

United National Congress (UNC) leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar says the proposed coalition continues to be a work in progress, as her party is yet to determine how the seats will be divided among the groups. However, one thing is for certain, she says the UNC will not work with National Transformation Alliance (NTA) leader Gary Griffith in the next general election. This, as Persad-Bissessar again yesterday called out Griffith for disrespecting her members. Read more here

'Heritage looking to maximise mature fields'

Heritage Petroleum CEO Erik Keskula  says asset improvement is needed for the company to get the most out of its mature fields.  He made the comments while speaking during a panel on the second day of the T&T Energy Conference, which took place at the Hyatt Regency, Port-of-Spain. Keskula said innovation and technology can be used to access such improvement, explaining, “Utilising things like wireless and remote monitoring to reduce the mean time to respond when a well goes down or a facility goes down, but working closely with the members of the community, partnerships with our service companies to do that and these assets, actually have some advantages.” Read more here

With diverse growth pillars Guyana’s economy can withstand global shocks –President Ali

Standing on a diverse pillar of growth, Guyana is building an economy that could withstand global shocks, according to President, Dr Irfaan Ali. Appearing on a recent airing of the Energy Perspective Podcast, the Guyanese Head of State noted that while the country has a burgeoning oil and gas industry, it is critical for the government to pursue economic diversification and build out the other segments of the economy. “We have to be responsible in the way we manage the resources from oil and gas, and that is why it is so critical for us to pursue economic diversification and build out the other segments and sectors of our economy, so that in times of shock, or in times when the revenue is affected based on the global pricing mechanism, the economy can withstand those shocks,” Dr. Ali said. Elon Musk denies 'hostile takeover' of government in surprise White House appearance

Elon Musk denied leading a "hostile takeover" of the US government and defended his cost-cutting plans as he made a surprise first appearance at the White House on Tuesday. The world's richest man took questions from reporters in the Oval Office as he stood next to President Donald Trump, who has tasked him with slashing the size and spending of the federal government. Trump then signed an order giving Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (Doge) more authority to cut the federal workforce. It instructed the heads of government agencies to comply with Doge.
