Katzenjammers secures hattrick at medium-band finals
They promised they would do it. And they did. Katzenjammers Steel Orchestra secured its hattrick in the national médium conventional band competition at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Bacolet, Tobago. The results were announced around 12.15 am on February 24. Playing in position number two, the band from Black Rock delivered an electrifying performance to the Mighty Sparrow's Lying Excuses before a capacity audience whichi included Tourism Minister Randall Mitchell, Tobago West MP Shamfa Cudjoe Lewis and Chief Secretary Farley Augustine. Country records first triple murder for 2025 in Guanapo
A six-year-old boy was yesterday nursing injuries at hospital following a mass shooting on Saturday in Arima, which left his mother, father and uncle dead. The primary school pupil was shot in both legs during the deadly home invasion at La Retreat Extension, Heights of Guanapo, Arima, which claimed the lives of Anicia James, 47; her brother Anslem James, 49; and her common-law husband Mitchell Francois, 30. The nation’s first triple homicide for the year as a State of Emergency (SoE) remains in effect, galvanised senior police officers into action as Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Intelligence and Investigations, Suzette Martin; and acting DCP, Operations, Curt Simon both visited the scene. Griffith: No surprise in COP/UNC alliance
National Transformation Alliance (NTA) political leader Gary Griffith says he was not surprised by a public appearance of Congress of the People (COP) political leader Prakash Ramadhar, members of the Opposition UNC and its "coalition of interests" (COI) at a rally to mark the third anniversary of the February 25, 2022 Paria diving tragedy. The rally took place at the Pointe-a-Pierre roundabout on February 22. The UNC was represented by MPs David Lee, Rudranath Indarsingh and Ravi Ratiram; Opposition Senator Wade Mark, party PRO Dr Kirk Meighoo and candidates Michael Dowlath and John Michael Alibocus. Agostini deepens rebranding as company grows
It’s not just about removing an apostrophe ‘s’. Just over a week ago, Agostini’s Ltd rebranded to become Agostini Ltd. Some may think it is a simple change, but the rebrand is part of a wider vision of the group. “The rebranding is far more extensive than most people would realise, because Agostini’s Ltd now, Agostini Limited is a group of 21 companies around the region, and so many of our subsidiaries within Agostini have also rebranded,” said James Walker, CEO of the Agostini Pharmaceutical & Healthcare Group, in an interview with the Sunday Business Guardian. AS Bryden laments forex challenges
AS Bryden and Sons Holdings Ltd (ASBH) has expressed concerns that its Trinidad and Tobago operations are facing challenges due to the availability and cost of foreign exchange. ASBH, a distributor based in Trinidad and Tobago with operations in Guyana, Barbados and St Lucia, made the statement during an interim report to the stockholders for the year ended December 31, 2024. Gov’t will continue to invest in culture, creativity
Loving, united, happy and prosperous were the four words President, Dr Irfaan Ali used on Sunday to describe Guyanese when he took to the city streets to view the 2025 Mashramani Float Parade and Costume Competition. The Head of State took time out of his day to join members of the Guyanese public who were enjoying the country’s 55th Republic Anniversary celebrations. Observed under the theme, “Expressing our Culture and Creativity as One Guyana,” this year’s festivities seemed part of a huge party as persons of all ages, races and religious backgrounds cluttered several streets of Georgetown to see the much-anticipated Mash Day float parade. The unseen map that promised to bring peace to the Middle East
"In the next 50 years, you will not find one Israeli leader that will propose to you what I propose to you now. "Sign it! Sign it and let's change history!" It was 2008. Israel's Prime Minister Ehud Olmert was imploring the Palestinian leader to accept a deal he believed could have brought peace to the Middle East. It was a two-state solution - a prospect which seems impossible today. If implemented, it would have created a Palestinian state on more than 94% of the occupied West Bank. Read more here
