Omicron v delta: Battle of coronavirus mutants is critical

Some scientists, poring over data from South Africa and the United Kingdom, suggest omicron could emerge the victor.

“It’s still early days, but increasingly, data is starting to trickle in, suggesting that omicron is likely to outcompete delta in many, if not all, places,” said Dr. Jacob Lemieux, who monitors variants for a research collaboration led by Harvard Medical School.

Tobago goes green, historic win for PDP.

A majority of Tobagonians opted for change yesterday when they elected the Progressive Democratic Patriots (PDP) headed by Watson Duke and Farley Augustine to run their Tobago House of Assembly affairs until 2025.

Preliminary results indicated a PDP milestone with a majority of Tobago’s 15 seats - breaking People’s National Movement’s 21-year management of the THA.. Read more here…

Ministry expands covid19 step-down care to make more room in hospitals

Even though there has been a slight decrease in the number of people hospitalised with covid19, the Ministry of Health is increasing the number of beds in step-down facilities to make more room in hospital wards.

Imbert: Govt already using big data

THE potential for big data to transform government is vast and is something that is being actively pursued, according to Finance Minister Colm Imbert.

Speaking virtually at the United Nations Trinidad and Tobago Big Data Forum on Wednesday, Imbert said big data can also be useful in providing real-time information such as tax collection and issuing official documents.  Read more here…

Western leaders urge Russia to lower Ukraine tensions

Responding to fears of a Russian invasion, Mr Biden agreed with leaders of the UK, France, Germany and Italy to use "all the tools at their disposal". Moscow denies it has plans to attack. But Russia has moved thousands of troops near Ukraine's eastern borders, and Ukraine says tanks have been moved to the front line inside its territory. Read more here…

The European Union has long been criticized for trying to have its cake and eat it when it comes to China.
