Murder victim's family: If you see something, say something

The family of Anthony John, who was shot dead outside his La Retreat Road home in Arima, is urging the public to do their part in the fight against crime and “say something if you see something.” Reports say John, 57, was was about to enter his yard around 6 am on July 15, when two men emerged from some nearby bushes and shot him several times. John’s family say they have no idea why anyone would want to kill the father of four. Speaking with the media at the Forensic Science Centre in St James, a female relative described him as peaceful, loving and kind. Read more here

303 confirmed dengue cases, says Deyalsingh

Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh says there are 303 confirmed dengue cases nationally with county Caroni experiencing the highest increase. His comments come as Tabaquite MP Anita Haynes-Alleyne complained that dengue cases had risen sharply in her electoral region. Appealing to the central Government for immediate help to tackle the growing public health crisis in her constituency, Haynes-Alleyne said, “The mosquito problem has skyrocketed, and it’s worrying, especially so early in the rainy season.”She added: “My office and the local regional council are flooded with requests for mosquito spraying, and we’re hearing about more and more cases of dengue affecting families and neighbourhoods.” She said Tabaquite seems to be one of the hardest-hit areas. PM’s friend sues State after charges: Cops out to cripple me

Days after police shut down an aggregate processing plant in Wallerfield owned by the Warner Group of Companies for operating without a licence, the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries granted the company temporary permission to operate the plant. The disclosure was made in a July 10 lawsuit filed by Warns Quarry Co Ltd, Warner Construction and Sanitation Ltd, three other companies under the Warner Group and 12 individuals against the Attorney General and the Director of Public Prosecutions. The lawsuit claims an unlawful conspiracy by the police to "cripple" Warner companies. The Warner Group, founded by Allan Warner, has substantial businesses in TT. UTC head reflects on life-altering decisions

One evening, when 16-year-old Nigel Edwards was awaiting the results of his CXC exams, he was outside his family’s Bon Air Gardens home, when a good friend and neighbour asked him to hide a bag. When Edwards opened the bag, he saw a handgun inside it. “That was a moment of decision for me. As good a friend as he was- and he was probably the best friend I can think of at that time- I told him no,” Edwards said. Edwards believes that situation could have changed the trajectory of his life had he not made the right choice. He credits his parents, Kelvin and Patsy Philip, for giving him the strength that he needed to say no. Read more here

Guyana, US eager to explore new innovations, strengthen ties

Building on the already established shared values and partnerships, officials from the United States of America and Guyana on Tuesday convened a strategic dialogue to advance bilateral ties and mutual development. Guyana’s Foreign Secretary Robert Persaud, while engaging US officials, highlighted the shared values and goals between the two countries, including democracy, security, and sustainable development. “This dialogue seeks to build on the friendship and the partnership that exist between our two countries under the bilateral, regional and international cooperation frameworks,” Persaud said. Trump's defeated Republican rivals show united front at convention

One by one, Donald Trump’s defeated rivals for the 2024 Republican nomination took the stage to sing his praises at the party's convention on Tuesday night. From his box just above the convention floor, Trump smiled at times as he watched his former opponents Nikki Haley, Ron DeSantis, and Vivek Ramaswamy voice their full support for his candidacy. If there were any doubts that this was Trump’s party, Tuesday’s programming put them to rest. “I’ll start by making one thing perfectly clear: Donald Trump has my strong endorsement, period,” said Ms Haley, the former UN Ambassador who posed the strongest challenge to Trump earlier this year.
