TTPost working with global postal services to restore US-bound delivery

The TT Postal Corporation (TTPost) says it is working with the Universal Postal Union, the Caribbean Postal Union, and other global postal operators to resume accepting postal items destined for the US. While unable to provide a resumption date, TTPost told Newsday, “TTPost is committed to a resumption in the shortest possible timeframe. “There are several local and international stakeholders involved, and to protect our customers and the organisation, detailed and thorough assessments and consultations are being conducted to secure a resumption.” Read more here

Teenager killed in PoS crash involving PTSC bus

The management of the Public Transport Service Corporation (PTSC) yesterday reached out and offered condolences to the family of teenager Lysanne Julien, 19, following her death in an early morning accident in Port-of-Spain. Julien died after the vehicle she was in was involved in an accident with a PTSC bus at the Park and Henry streets intersection. When contacted yesterday, PTSC general manager Patrick Gomez told Guardian Media: “We are still investigating all the circumstances. We are working with the authorities, the police and the driver is currently giving a statement at the police station. But we are still gathering information at this stage.” Police reported that around 3.45 am, the driver of a Honda Vezel was heading east along Park Street when the vehicle was struck by a PTSC bus heading north along Henry Street. PM condemned for strong support of fatal US naval strike off , but sticks to her guns

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar is facing mounting criticism at home and abroad, after her strong endorsement of Tuesday’s US military strike on an alleged Venezuelan drug vessel that killed 11 members of the Tren de Aragua cartel. And she is now being urged to watch her tone on the ongoing US action in the Caribbean. However, Persad-Bissessar is doubling down on her call to the US to “kill them all violently, saying she has T&T citizens at heart in the matter. Read more here

Digital economy rewired

Trinidad and Tobago must move urgently to adapt its economy to the realities of digitalisation or risk being left behind, warned experts at the Central Bank’s annual Research Review Seminar at its auditorium on September 3. The seminar, The Digital Economy: Rewiring the Analogue Economy to Achieve Durable Benefits, brought together leaders from government, the private sector, academia and finance to debate how technology, policy and infrastructure can reshape outdated systems for long-term competitiveness. Central Bank deputy governor Dr Dorian Noel opened the seminar, noting that digitalisation is no longer optional. Read more here

16 appointed to new NTA board

Sixteen directors have been appointed to the reconstituted board of the National Training Agency (NTA). The new board received their instruments of appointment during a ceremony on Tuesday at the Ministry of Tertiary Education and Skills Training (MTEST) at Education Towers, Port of Spain. The board will be led by chairman Chandar Gupta Supersad. The NTA is a central co-ordinating body responsible for planning, co-ordinating and administering the national training systems for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in support of the nation’s workforce development, a release from the Ministry of Tertiary Education explained. President Ali re-elected to office

The incumbent People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) is in line to regain office after capturing a significant victory at the 2025 General and Regional Election. Six parties contested this year’s election, with three major parties capturing the majority of votes at the polls, those being the incumbent PPP/C, A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) and newcomer We Invest in Nationhood (WIN). The win by the incumbent PPP/C, according to the data provided in the declarations published by the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) for the General Election, shows that significant gains have been made in several regions that had previously supported the APNU. The most significant of these regions would be Region Four, which has traditionally supported that party. Read more here

UAE warns Israel that annexing West Bank would cross 'red line'

The United Arab Emirates has warned Israel that annexing the occupied West Bank would cross a "red line" and undermine the spirit of the Abraham Accords that normalised relations between the two countries. A senior Emirati official, Lana Nusseibeh, said such a move would be the death knell of the two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The Palestinian Authority's foreign ministry said it welcomed the UAE's position. The Israeli government has not commented. But Nusseibeh's remarks came after far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich unveiled a proposal for the annexation of approximately four-fifths of the West Bank. Read more here
