PAHO: Keep following covid19 recommendations

Even though there has been advancement towards vaccines for covid19, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) said there must be continuous adherence to the covid19 stringent measures. So said PAHO director Dr Carrissa Etienne during a webinar on Wednesday. Read more here

21 migrants get deportation stays

Twenty-one Venezuelan migrant adults and children, who returned to this country after being repatriated two Sundays ago, have obtained court orders preventing their deportation pending litigation against the State. Guardian Media understands that last night, Justice Joan Charles granted orders for four of the migrant children. Read more here

AG, Young welcome ruling on Venezuelan deportation

Attorney General Faris Al-Rawi and National Security Minister Stuart Young on Wednesday welcomed a ruling by Justice Frank Seepersad to throw out an application to stop the deportation of an 11 year-old Venezuelan girl. The girl was one of a group of 26 who returned illegally on November 24, two days after they were escorted out of Trinidad and Tobago's waters by the Coast Guard. Read more here

Vasant defends family name after Kamla attack I’m not elitist

The term 'knife and fork' Indian is an insult to all young men and women of East Indian descent whose parents toiled long and hard and made sacrifices to provide their children with an education to allow them to have upward mobility. So said United National Congress leadership challenger Vasant Bharath at a campaign meeting last night in Chaguanas, where he rubbished the term used on Monday by incumbent leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar when she attacked his slate. Corruption cases difficult to prosecute

Finance Minister Colm Imbert says Trinidad and Tobago’s judicial system and its Constitution make it very difficult to prosecute people who have been charged with embezzlement and corruption. Read more here

Secondary city

With a growing population and an impending economic boom, the Government of Guyana has started to examine the possibility of creating a “secondary city” in Linden-Soesdyke Highway area to relieve the burden from an overpopulated Georgetown. A city is defined as a permanent and densely settled place with administratively defined boundaries whose members work primarily on non-agricultural tasks. Read more here

Mark Golding Names 19-Member Shadow Cabinet

Opposition Leader Mark Golding has named a nineteen-member shadow cabinet with 18 portfolios. Among the notable changes is the removal of former People’s National Party Chairman Fitz Jackson as national security spokesman. He has been replaced by Peter Bunting who is to be appointed senator and Leader of Opposition Business in the Upper House. Read more here

Coronavirus: Hackers targeted Covid vaccine supply 'cold chain'

The international vaccine supply chain has been targeted by cyber-espionage, according to IBM. The company says it tracked a campaign aimed at the delivery "cold chain" used to keep vaccines at the right temperature during transportation. The attackers' identity is unclear - but IBM said the sophistication of their methods indicated a nation state. It follows warnings from governments - including the UK's - of countries targeting aspects of vaccine research. Read more here
