QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE Five (5) CXC passes, including Mathematics and English. At least one (1) year’s experience in a printing or manufacturing environment. Experience operating or supporting printing presses will be considered an asset. Intermediate computer literacy, including use of production software and basic digital systems. Ability to read and interpret job tickets and complete accurate documentation (Goods Withdrawal, Stores Return, Malfunction Report, Machine Repair Log). Basic understanding of plate handling and colour-density measurement using a densitometer. Familiarity with PACE software and digital ink systems (training will be provided). Ability to follow consecutive sheet pull plans and maintain accurate production records. Mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot minor press issues under supervision. Understanding of safe press operation and cleaning procedures.

The Junior Press Operator supports the safe, efficient, and accurate operation of the printing presses. This includes assisting with make-ready activities, performing basic machine setup and cleaning, conducting quality checks, and following all safety procedures under the supervision of the Senior Operator or Head of Production.
PRODUCTION:
· Read and interpret the job ticket and goods withdrawal to determine production requirements.
· Assist with analysing plates for banding, scratches, punching issues, and alignment in collaboration with Pre-press.
· Support make-ready activities including:
Ø Setting up feeder components (sucker position, pile height, side guides, head stops) under supervision.
Ø Hanging plates in printing units and ensuring proper tension.
Ø Setting up delivery, including vacuum wheels, jogging paddles, and skid insertion.
Ø Running make-ready sheets and checking layout and pagination.
· Conduct basic material checks including:
Ø Inspection of digilines and proofs.
Ø Inspection of paper to ensure conformity to specifications.
Ø Measuring paper thickness using micrometer.
· Assist with ink and water system preparation including:
Ø Applying ink to fountains.
Ø Cleaning and refilling the water tank in the Baldwin Unit.
Ø Using the pH tester to check pH and conductivity levels and making adjustments as directed.
· Support colour and registration processes under guidance, including:
Ø Setting and adjusting ink density to achieve target levels.
Ø Measuring ink density using the densitometer.
Ø Matching ink density to samples, proofs, or standards.
Ø Bringing colour into registration using registration targets, with assistance as needed.
· Monitor press sheets during operation for variations including:
Ø Scumming
Ø Hickeys
Ø Marking
Ø Tinting
Ø Slurring
Ø Linting
Ø Emulsification
Ø Picking
Ø Excessive spray powder
Ø Coating distribution
· Assist with adjusting spray powder to minimise set-off.
· Perform basic cleaning and maintenance tasks as instructed.
