Job Description

Lens Surfacing Technician – Quality Lab Works We’re hiring motivated, detail-oriented individuals to join our optical lab as Lens Surfacing Technicians. In this hands-on role, you’ll prepare, generate, polish, and inspect lenses using specialized equipment. No prior experience needed—full training provided. Must have a technical diploma, be computer literate, and able to distinguish colors. Strong manual dexterity, attention to detail, and teamwork skills required. Optical experience is a plus. Physical work includes standing/walking for extended periods and performing repetitive tasks.

Job Details / Responsibilities

  • Learn optical manufacturing
  • Prepare lenses for optical production
  • Calibrate and monitor surfacing generators to ensure lenses are cut to precise specifications.
  • Operate surfacing equipment, including generators, blockers, polishers, and edgers.
  • Manage lens polishers, engravers
  • Identify lens materials, base curves, sizes
  • Understand progressive designs, markings, SV, flat tops
  • Maintain machinery by cleaning and prepping all equipment for the next production day.
  • Learn and understand lens knowledge power, Sph, Cyl, Axis, Seg. Heights, PD's, etc.
  • Wash, clean, and inspect lenses to ensure quality and readiness for further processing or assembly.
  • Block and align lenses accurately before generation.
  • Generate lenses to specified curves and powers using computerized equipment.
  • Polish and deblock lenses while maintaining optical precision and surface quality.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area according to safety and hygiene standards.
  • Record and report any equipment issues or lens defects.
  • Collaborate with other lab departments (eg first inspection) to ensure workflow efficiency.
  • Perform routine maintenance of surfacing equipment
