Job Description

The Assistant Operator is responsible for assisting in the execution of the the day to day preparation and running of the printing press, laminator, slitter and ancillary equipment in accordance with company quality standards and procedures.

Job Details / Responsibilities

  • Assists preparation of press and ancillary equipment for printing by ensuring all inputs (inks, plates, materials, pumps, etc.) are set in accordance to job specifications and company quality standards and procedures.
  • Assists in carrying out the recommended pre start-up checks and start up the press in keeping with the SOP and operating manual of the equipment.
  • Assists in monitoring press performance constantly throughout the run, including color, copy and registration. Visually inspects product for defects and quality issues. Observes the press operations to detect any machine or equipment malfunctions and correct the issues.
  • Assists in setting up laminator and slitter machines and ancillary equipment in keeping with the SOP and operating manual within standard setup times & procedures. Assists in operating machines and observes flow of material through machine to detect and correct any shortcomings on the job.
  • Assists in pulling proof sheets to confirm material position, adhesion and appearance and secure an approval prior to the production run.
  • Assists in reviewing work orders for special instructions, ensuring that quality standards and production deadlines are met.
  • Assists in operating and maintaining equipment in keeping with SOP’s and guidelines provided by the equipment supplier.
  • Assists in performing the general maintenance of equipment or minor repairs. Participate in preventive maintenance activities, as directed by Supervisor and/or Supplier.
  • Assists in operating at high levels of efficiency and productivity, keeping waste generation to a minimum.
  • Meets all company safety policies and report any concerns related to required maintenance of machines.
