Professional Qualifications Required

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety and Health or any other related discipline from a recognized institution would be an asset • Certification in Occupational Health and Safety (NEBOSH) or similar certification • Minimum of at least five (5) years of experience in HSE field/role • Experience in food and/or processing industry preferred • Working knowledge of local health and safety legislation and procedures • Knowledge of HACCP would be an asset • A valid Police Certificate of Good Character

Technical / Vocational Skills Required

• Good written and verbal communication skills. • Must be able to work to deadlines. • Detail oriented • Good interpersonal skills • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite

Job Description

The HSSE Officer is responsible for implementing, monitoring, inspecting, and ensuring compliance with health and safety and environmental laws and providing guidance on safety, health and environmental initiatives and activities in accordance with the Company's safety programme, policies and procedures and national/international legislation.

Job Details / Responsibilities

·       Safety Compliance:

o   Monitor and enforce compliance with Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) regulations on the company’s facilities.

o   Conduct Risk Assessments and enforce preventative measures.

o   Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies, procedures, and guidelines.

o   Liaise with OSHA and other safety officials with respect to routine inspections.

 

·       Incident Investigation:

o   Lead and participate in the investigation of incidents, accidents, and near misses.

o   Prepare detailed reports on findings and recommend corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.

o   Collaborate with teams to implement corrective and preventive measures

 

·       Food Safety:

o   Conducting food safety and quality inspections and audits including but not limited to pest management, personal hygiene, Good Manufacturing Practices and environmental management.

o   Schedules necessary training and orientation programs for employees on quality and food safety as required.

o   Supporting Food Safety team with monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of food safety programs and recommend changes as needed

 

·       Training and Awareness:

o   Coordinate safety training programs for employees and subcontractors.

o   Promote a safety-conscious culture through awareness campaigns, toolbox talks, and initiatives.

o   Stay updated on industry best practices and communicate relevant information to the team

 

·       Emergency Response Planning:

o   Assisting with the development of Emergency Response Plans

o   Coordinate drills and simulations to ensure preparedness for various emergency scenarios.

o   Collaborate with relevant authorities to ensure compliance with emergency response protocols

 

·       Environmental Management:

o   Implement and monitor environmental management plans to minimize the impact on the environment.

o   Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and standards

 

·       Documentation and Reporting:

o   Maintain accurate records of safety-related activities, inspections, safety training and incidents.

o   Keep abreast of changes in safety and environmental regulations and update company policies accordingly.

o   Supports the innovation process ensuring that the HSE Manual and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) plans are updated as required.

o   Prepare HSSE documents and Risk Assessments for machinery and job safety analysis for processes.
