Buses destroyed bush fire
Firemen from Chaguanas Fire Station are investigating the cause of a bush fire in Carlsen Field on Monday afternoon in which six Public Transportation Service Commission (PTSC) buses were burnt. Read more here
Evacuation ordered
Hours after it began spitting gas, the Devil’s Woodyard mud volcano erupted before dawn yesterday, leaving residents cowering in their homes. The rumbles and explosionsshook the community of Hindustan, New Grant, around 4.20 am and again at 8.52 am. Some 40 people had to be evacuated. Read more here
4 killings, robberies recorded for Carnival
Four murders, a series of robberies, shootings and the death of an elderly United States citizen were some of the incidents that marred this year’s Carnival celebrations. Even though all of those incidents were not directly related to the festivities, the ones that weren’t certainly took the attention away from police officers whose main focus was to keep watchful eyes on the revelry to ensure a safe as possible Carnival 2018. Little rest for MPs after Carnival
There will be little time for any of this country’s parliamentarians to rest after this week’s Carnival festivities are over. Parliamentary activities resume on Friday with separate in-camera meetings of the Special Select Committee (SSC) appointed to review the nomination of a Commissioner of Police (CoP) and Deputy CoP, Joint Select Committee (JSC) on Finance and Legal Affairs and the JSC on the Anti-Terrorism Bill 2018 at Tower D of the Port of Spain International Waterfront Centre. TCL remains mum on job cuts
Executives of Trinidad Cement Limited (TCL) yesterday declined to answer questions on impending job cuts as they met with officials of the Oilfields Workers’ Trade Union to discuss the signing of an outstanding Memorandum of Agreement. The meeting was held at the OWTU’s headquarters in San Fernando at 9 am. Among those attending were general manager of TCL Rodolfo Martinez, group operations manager Miguel Estrada, labour relations coordinator Dalia Alibey and human resource manager Bonnie Alexis. Professor Gordon Shirley Is RJRGLEANER Man Of The Year
The RJRGLEANER Honour Awards gala began with nine nominees who had a chance to be named the 2017 Gleaner Man of the Year. In the end, there stood only one in the person of Professor Gordon Shirley, an outstanding public servant and current head of the Port Authority of Jamaica. The posh formal affair, which took place at its usual 'home', the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in New Kingston yesterday, drew from a wide cross section of outstanding Jamaicans, who stood out for their invaluable contribution to the nation last year. They highlighted the high standard for which the honour awards has come to be known over its 38 years in existence. Read more here

Trump's lawyer paid $130,000 of own money to porn star
President Donald Trump's personal lawyer said Tuesday that he paid $130,000 of his own money to a porn star who allegedly had a sexual encounter with the President before his time in office. "In a private transaction in 2016, I used my own personal funds to facilitate a payment of $130,000 to Ms. Stephanie Clifford," Michael Cohen said in a statement. "Neither the Trump Organization nor the Trump campaign was a party to the transaction with Ms. Clifford, and neither reimbursed me for the payment, either directly or indirectly." Read more here
