Trini wins prestigious UNEP award
Trinidadian Dr Marissa Gowrie has been awarded a United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Policy and Implementation Leadership award. Gowrie, deputy environmental manager/national ozone officer at the Planning and Development Ministry, was one of 15 recipients out of a total of 197 parties in the world to win. Read more here

A prison officer with 19 years service was on Saturday night detained for questioning for having marijuana in his possession. Read more here
Pundit shot dead in robbery at home
A Hindu Pundit was shot and killed during a robbery and his home on Saturday night. Pundit Sunil Ragbirsingh was accosted by thieves shortly before midnight at his Five Rivers, Arouca home. He died at the scene. At around 11 p.m. an unidentified man was gunned down at the corner of Eastern Main Road and Mt D'or Road, Champs Fleurs. Read more here

MSJ condemns statements about Beetham residents
Movement for Social Justice (MSJ) leader David Abdulah says while his party does not condone acts of violence against citizens, and protestors throwing missiles at people going about their business, the party also does not condone disparaging statements about Beetham Gardens residents in the aftermath of Thursday’s event on the Beetham Highway. Former PM retains leadership of UNC
It was a no contest. That’s the view of senior officials of the United National Congress after incumbent Kamla Persad-Bissessar was re-elected Political leader by an overwhelming majority. It was the third time that Persad-Bissessar had received an overwhelming mandate from the membership of the UNC. In 2010 Persad Bissessar captured 13,932 votes to Basdeo Panday’s 1,359 and Ramesh Lawrence Maharaj’s 1072. A total of 16,363 members voted in the 2010 internal elections out of a membership of just over 34,000. Read more here
Moonilal: I will report Young to Integrity Commission
Former housing Minister Dr Roodal Moonilal said yesterday, he intended to report to the Integrity Commission and the police that Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister Stuart Young was in collusion with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) on the 2016 audit into the Housing Development Corporation (HDC). Moonilal said he may also look into “legal strategies” if he found that Young, as well as Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley and Attorney General Faris Al-Rawi were also influential in the filing of civil actions against him, former Estate Management Business Development (EMBD) Company CEO Gary Parmassar and five contractors. Baron Foods sets up shop in T&T
As part of its diversification thrust, government is putting measures in place to encourage foreign firms to set up shop in T&T in the hopes that it will stimulate growth in the local market. Delivering the feature address at the opening of Baron Foods T&T Ltd over the weekend, Trade Minister Paula Gopee-Scoon welcomed the regional company's investment in T&T. 'I Am The Builder' - Holness Claims Title For Building Houses For Jamaicans
Describing himself as "the builder", Prime Minister Andrew Holness yesterday declared that his administration was on track this fiscal year to deliver 8,500 mortgages to new homeowners - a new record in the National Housing Trust's 40-year history. The loans, said Holness, convert to $28 billion. Addressing Labourites at the Jamaica Labour Party's 74th annual conference at the National Arena in Kingston, Holness pointed out that 5,500 housing starts would be completed by the National Housing Trust (NHT) this fiscal year. Trump slams CNN International — and journalists fire back
President Trump's latest broadside against CNN is drawing ire from journalists who say he misunderstands the very purpose of news coverage. "This is another way that Trump recklessly hurts us in the world," said Baltimore Sun media critic David Zurawik on CNN's "Reliable Sources" Sunday. A day earlier, Trump took aim at a new target: the network's international programming. His evening tweet tarred CNN International while also boosting Fox News, the president's favored organization.
