Store clerk: Christmas shoppers 'feel tense' in Port of Spain
As Christmas shopping ramps up in the heart of Port of Spain, crime is on the minds of both customers and business owners. There’s a tense feeling in the air in the stores and on the streets. Newsday asked an employee at one of the stores on Henry Street how business was doing. After asking to be anonymous, she said there was a constant feeling of unease and anxiety while conducting business. While speaking to Newsday, a suspicious person was brought to the employee’s attention. She said normally an announcement would be made asking people to be careful with their belongings, which would warn off suspicious people. Read more here
Chloe heads to Colombia in December after raising US$120,000
Less than two weeks after Guardian Media highlighted her story, Chloe Ramnarine has raised the US$120,000 needed to undergo life-saving cancer surgery. The 21 year old, who has been battling stage 2B Hodgkin’s Lymphoma since February 2023, will fly to Colombia in mid-December for the procedure that offers her a second chance at life. Speaking to Guardian Media, Ramnarine said since her story aired, the outpouring of support has been overwhelming. Donations poured in from across the globe. “I am so happy the public helped, especially senior citizens and the cancer survivors who amazed me and did their best to help, as well as small business owners,” Ramnarine said. Government slams Kamla's threat to deport Venezuelans
Two Cabinet ministers – Minister of National Security Fitzgerald Hinds and Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Amery Browne – on November 26 chided Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar for her mass deportation stance against any law-breaking Venezuelans in TT. At a UNC meeting in Barataria on November 25, Persad-Bissessar condemned the abduction and murder of a constituent Winston Thomas, allegedly by Venezuelan migrants. Read more here

Nu Wave Automotive expands services with El Socorro service centre
Nu Wave Automotive Ltd unveiled its state-of-the-art 28,000-square-foot El Socorro service centre on November 26. The facility was recognised as a game-changer for TT’s automotive industry by Trade and Industry Minister Paula Gopee-Scoon. The centre offers advanced services, including tyre alignment, suspension diagnostics and electrical repairs, setting a new standard for the industry, said chief operations manager Nichola Harvey Mitchell. TTSEC warns public over Telegram scam
The Trinidad and Tobago Securities and Exchange Commission (TTSEC) is warning people about a new scam on the Telegram instant messaging service in which con artists are asking for an “investment” of money to get back much more in a short space of time. Telegram is a cloud-based, cross-platform, social media and instant messaging service which allows users to exchange messages, share media and files, and hold private and group voice or video calls as well as public livestreams. ‘We are focused on ensuring that every Guyanese get that money’
Prime Minister, Mark Phillips has assured the public that the government is focused on ensuring that every eligible Guyanese receive the $100,000 cash grant. He was at the time giving his input as the Committee of Supply considered the $30.5 billion supplementary provision for the distribution of the cash grant to every Guyanese citizen 18 years and above. This sum which is part of $84,074,229,401 that is needed by government to fund key development initiatives, was later approved. The request for the sum was first presented by Senior Minister in the Office of the President with Responsibility for Finance and Public Service, Dr. Ashni Singh, on Monday, at the 88th sitting of the 12th Parliament. The Lebanon ceasefire is a respite, not a solution for the Middle East
For most of the people of Lebanon, a ceasefire could not come quickly enough. A leading Lebanese analyst at a conference on the Middle East that I’m attending in Rome said she couldn’t sleep as the appointed hour for the ceasefire came closer. “It was like the night before Christmas when you’re a kid. I couldn’t wait for it to happen.” You can see why there’s relief. More than 3,500 citizens of Lebanon have been killed in Israeli strikes. Displaced people packed their cars before dawn to try to get back to whatever remains of their homes. Well over one million of them have been forced to flee by Israeli military action. Thousands have been wounded and the homes of tens of thousands of others have been destroyed. Read more here
