Digicel TT gets new CEO
Russian Jabbor Kayumov has been appointed the new chief executive officer (CEO) of Digicel TT. He was introduced to the local media at a luncheon at Jaffa’s Private Dining Room in Queen’s Park Oval on Friday. It is the first time in the Caribbean for Kayumov, and as well his first post with the Digicel Group. Read more here

Major Cabinet shake-up as Young replaces Dillon
In a major Cabinet reshuffle, the Prime Minister last night advised President Paula-Mae Weekes to revoke Edmund Dillon’s appointment as National Security Minister. Communications Minister Stuart Young will replace him. Young confirmed his appointment, thanked Dr Rowley and pledged to do his best in his new assignment. Read more here
UNC wants probe into NLCB
UNC MP for Pointe-a-Pierre Dr David Lee is calling on Finance Minister Colm Imbert to investigate what he claims to be “rampant corruption” at the National Lotteries Control Board (NLCB). He said the country witnessed another “fiasco” with the NLCB and its directors when they initiated the 10 per cent tax on July 30 without having the proper approval from the proclamation. BPTT helps Mayaro students set to take a ‘LEAP’ ahead
Some 25 students from across the south-eastern community of Mayaro are set to benefit from a revolutionary new developmental programme sponsored by energy company BP Trinidad and Tobago. Entitiled “Life-Skills, Entrepreneurship and Problem-Solving (LEAP)”, the two-week programme was launched at the Mayaro Resource Centre on Thursday. Developed by Mayaro-based Business Clinic, it focuses on students between the ages of 12 and 16 and has engaged local non-governmental organisations such as Global Villages, as well as consulted with various community leaders, educators, parents and other stakeholders to ensure success and tangible benefits to the students. Up In Flames - Independence Shelved For 17 Denham Town Residents After Fire Destroys Their Homes
There will be no Independence celebrations for residents of 68 and 70 Bond Street in Denham Town, west Kingston, today. They will instead spend the day trying to make preparations to move on with their lives after fire ravaged their houses yesterday morning. "We will not be independent. Instead, we will be dependent as we will have to depend on persons to put us up. We will have to depend on people to give us a bed and depend on people to help wi get back a start in life," quipped one young man as he picked through the rubble of what was once his house. All he found was a photo album with the edges singed but most of the pictures intact. Read more here

Venezuela makes six arrests in alleged Maduro assassination attempt
Six people have been arrested after Saturday's apparent assassination attempt on President Nicolas Maduro in the Venezuelan capital of Caracas, the nation's interior minister said on national TV. Maduro survived the assault after several drones armed with explosives flew toward him during a speech at a military parade, an attack he blamed on far-right elements and Colombia's outgoing president, Juan Manuel Santos. Those arrested are accused of "terrorism and assassination," Interior Minister Néstor Reverol said Sunday. Read more here
