Elderly couple tied up, robbed
An elderly Cunupia couple was tied up and robbed by four bandits at gunpoint on yesterday morning.The 71-year-old woman and her 74-year-old husband, who did not want to be named, told the T&T Guardian the bandits stormed their Munroe Road home around 7 am. The men placed a gun to their heads, tied them up in a bedroom and ransacked the place. They stole $4000, bottles of liquor, gold jewelry, a television and escaped in the family’s silver-grey Nissan Tiida licensed PDA 3086. Read more…
Two arrested in abduction of rescued family of five
TWO men in their 20’s have been arrested in connection with Saturday’s kidnapping of a Penal family of four and a female relative. The five – Aaron Sooknanan, 28, his 26-year-old Venezuelan-born wife Paola Sanchez-Sooknanan, five-year-old son Ricardo, three-year-old daughter Isabella and Sanchez-Sooknanan’s sister Rosa Angel, also from Venezuela, were rescued by a joint team of officers who went to a house at South Oropouche, Barrackpore at around 11.40 am yesterday. Qatar is pulling out of OPEC to focus on gas
OPEC is losing one of its oldest members.The small, gas-rich state of Qatar said Monday that it will leave the oil cartel on January 1 after nearly 60 years. The country's state oil company, Qatar Petroleum, made the announcement in a series of tweets."The withdrawal decision reflects Qatar's desire to focus its efforts on plans to develop and increase its natural gas production," Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, the country's newly-appointed minister of state for energy affairs, was cited as saying in one of the tweets.
