Anglican Bishop: Don't be threatened by seeing others do well

Anglican bishop Claude Berkley is urging people not to feel threatened when they see others elevating in life. Instead, he said, everyone should focus on showing love and caring about the well-being of others. He was addressing the congregation at the Holy Trinity Cathedral, Port of Spain on April 13 – Palm Sunday. The procession, which included both Anglicans and Roman Catholics, walked through downtown Port of Spain worshipping and distributing palm leaves folded into a cross to begin the observance. 39 detainees released as SoE ends

Hours before the end of the 105-day State of Emergency (SoE) yesterday, 39 detainees were released from the Maximum Security Prison (MSP) at Golden Grove and the Eastern Correctional and Rehabilitation Centre (ECRC) in Santa Rosa. However, 11 persons detained under the special regulations remain in custody as they are now facing criminal charges. Revocation orders for the release of the 39 detainees were signed by National Security Minister Marvin Gonzales yesterday morning, one day after release orders were for the 11 who are to be charged, allowing police investigators to take them back into custody from the prison authorities. PNM's women rally behind party's candidates

The People's National Movement (PNM) Women’s League came out in their numbers in Curepe to show support for the party's Aranguez/St Joseph candidate, Terrence Deyalsingh on April 13. The league, led by chairman Camille Robinson-Regis, supported Deyalsingh during a walkabout in Curepe and East Grove, starting at the Curepe community centre on the Southern Main Road. Former MP hits back at UNC candidate for ‘vagrant’ comment

A former UNC MP has described as “deeply disappointing” a platform comment by the party’s Tabaquite candidate Sean Sobers who claimed former Cumuto/Manzanilla MP Dr Rai Ragbir as “passing through like a vagrant.” Sobers took a swipe at Ragbir at a political meeting in Mayaro on Saturday night while praising the party’s new candidate for the constituency, Shivanna Sam. “I know that in her contribution and in her time in Cumuto/Manzanilla she will demonstrate the real UNC steel that Cumuto/Manzanilla has grown accustomed to—save and except for Dr Ragbir being there for some time, passing through like a vagrant,” he said. Students stack investments in virtual competition

To bridge the gap between theory and practice in investing, the Trinidad and Tobago Securities and Exchange Commission (TTSEC) held its inaugural National Secondary Schools’ Investing Competition titled Invest, Grow, Learn. The competition, which falls under TTSEC’s Investor Education Programme launched in 2005, aimed to encourage the use of stock market simulation in business teaching. Read more here

‘We are servants to the people’

During a spirited address to residents of Tain, Region Six, on Sunday, President Dr. Irfaan Ali reaffirmed the core values of the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C), describing it as a movement rooted in service and accountability. “We are not a party of Lords; this is not a party that will ever support any individual or group playing Lord. We are a party of service; we are effective servants for the people, from the highest level to the lowest level. That is what makes us different,” he said. He reaffirmed that his government remains deeply committed to improving the lives of all Guyanese through expanded investments in housing, infrastructure, education, and health services. Zelensky urges Trump to visit Ukraine ahead of deal with Russia

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky has invited Donald Trump to visit his country ahead of any deal with Russia to end the war. "Please, before any kind of decisions, any kind of forms of negotiations, come to see people, civilians, warriors, hospitals, churches, children destroyed or dead," Zelensky said in an interview for CBS's 60 Minutes programme. The interview was recorded before a Russian missile hit the city of Sumy, killing 34 people and injuring 117 others. Read more here
